This medication can be used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapies to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can also help manage blood sugar when used alone and can effectively control blood sugar when used in combination with other medications. This medication aids patients in the management of their diabetes and is used to enhance their quality of life.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be taken regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have an allergy to the active ingredient or any other components. It should also not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is necessary when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylurea medications that can cause hypoglycemia, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. Experience using this medication in patients with heart failure is limited, so it should be used with caution. Acute pancreatitis may occur, so if persistent and severe abdominal pain develops, the medication should be immediately discontinued, and a physician should be consulted. A skin condition known as bullous pemphigoid may appear; therefore, if any blisters or skin irritation develop, healthcare professionals should be notified immediately. Hypoglycemic symptoms may appear during the administration of this medication; appropriate measures should be taken if symptoms occur. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a physician before using this medication, and its use during pregnancy is not recommended. It is not recommended for children under 10 years or for those aged 10 to 17, as safety and efficacy have not been established. For the elderly, dose adjustment is not necessary; however, it can also be used without dose adjustment in patients with impaired kidney or liver function. No serious side effects have been reported in cases of overdose, but appropriate treatment, such as monitoring and removal of the medication from the gastrointestinal tract if necessary, should be done. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
