Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
The combination therapy of Amlodipine and Olmesartan Medoxomil is used when blood pressure control is difficult or ineffective with monotherapy for patients with essential hypertension, i.e. hypertension of unknown cause. These medications help to expand blood vessels and lower blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications. Combination therapy allows for more effective management of blood pressure and prevents long-term damage to the heart and kidneys, making it a suitable treatment option for patients whose blood pressure is not well controlled.
This medication should be taken once daily with water, regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). The recommended dosing is as follows: - 5/20/12.5 mg: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with the combination of Amlodipine/Olmesartan Medoxomil 5/20 mg. - 5/40/12.5 mg: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with the combination of Amlodipine/Olmesartan Medoxomil 5/40.
Safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric patients under 18 years of age. Therefore, the administration of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so use should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with known allergies or hypersensitivity to this drug or its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients with severe hypotension or heart, kidney, or liver diseases should not use this medication. Patients with reduced blood volume or body sodium may experience symptoms of hypotension upon initial dosing, requiring careful attention and close monitoring of their condition after treatment initiation. Caution is advised with administration in patients with compromised kidney function, kidney transplant patients, those with renovascular hypertension, liver disease, or specific heart conditions, as well as in cases of electrolyte imbalances or certain illnesses. This medication lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should consult with their doctor or pharmacist especially if taking lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, other antihypertensives, certain antibiotics, and other medications. Long-term use requires regular monitoring of serum electrolyte levels and kidney function to detect electrolyte imbalances or renal deterioration early. Breastfeeding women are advised to avoid this medication, and if unavoidable, should discontinue breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in patients under 18 years of age have not been established, so its use is not recommended. In the event of overdose, cardiovascular symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
