View approved original text

Essential hypertension is a condition of elevated blood pressure without any specific cause, and this medication is effective in lowering blood pressure and expanding blood vessels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. How to take

Adult dose

The recommended initial dose is 10mg once daily, administered regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dose, it may be increased to 20mg once daily. If additional blood pressure-lowering effect is required, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 40mg once daily. Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to it or its components, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are undergoing renal dialysis, have severe liver dysfunction, or have biliary obstruction. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. For patients with reduced blood volume or low sodium levels, hypotension may occur at the start of treatment, so monitoring their condition is essential. Caution is needed in patients with severe heart failure, as further deterioration of kidney function may occur in patients whose kidney function depends on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Patients with impaired kidney function or kidney transplant recipients should regularly check kidney function and electrolyte status through blood tests. Due to the blood pressure-lowering effect, dizziness may occur; therefore, it is advisable to avoid activities such as working at heights or operating vehicles or hazardous machinery. This medication poses a risk of hyperkalemia; patients, especially those with heart or kidney diseases, should regularly monitor their potassium levels. Chronic diarrhea and weight loss may indicate chronic malabsorption-like intestinal disorders; therefore, consult a physician if abnormal symptoms appear during prolonged use. This medication may interact with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; inform healthcare providers about any other medications being taken. Taking this medication during pregnancy may lead to severe side effects such as hypotension, kidney problems, and skull development issues in the fetus, so consult healthcare providers if planning to conceive or suspecting pregnancy. In breastfeeding, this medication can pass into breast milk and potentially cause side effects in infants, so it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding or stop the medication. Safety for pediatric patients has not been established, so it is advised not to use it in children. In older adults, drug metabolism may slow down, thus requiring dose adjustments and careful monitoring. In the event of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia may occur; notify healthcare providers immediately and seek appropriate treatment. This medication has not shown any carcinogenic or genotoxic effects with long-term use, but it is crucial to consult healthcare providers if abnormal symptoms occur.
