This medication is used to treat hypertension and myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina and variant angina. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with recently confirmed coronary artery disease via angiography, without heart failure and with a cardiac output over 40%. Thus, it is effective in managing cardiovascular diseases and helps in improving symptoms and reducing risks for patients.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5 mg orally once a day as amlodipine, and dosage may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily based on patient response. Adjustments can be made according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this drug or similar types of medications, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, those with aortic stenosis, and patients in a state of shock should not be administered this drug. Additionally, it should be used with caution in patients with severe hypotension, those requiring dialysis due to renal failure, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Various side effects may occur while taking this medication. The most common side effects include facial flushing, fatigue or swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, hypotension, vasculitis, neurological symptoms, erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia, dyspepsia, liver function abnormalities, and skin rashes have also been reported. If any of these symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function need to take extra caution when using this medication, and its effect appears slowly, making it unsuitable for the treatment of acute angina. This drug may interact with other medications, so if you are taking any other drugs, you must inform your healthcare provider. Particularly, it is not recommended to take with grapefruit juice, and caution is needed when used with certain antibiotics or other medications. For women who are pregnant or nursing, the safety of this drug has not been established, so it should only be used under the physician's judgment in necessary cases, and it is recommended to discontinue use while breastfeeding. In children, use is only recommended for those over 6 years old, as effectiveness and safety have not been established in children under 6. Elderly patients can use the standard dosage, but their physical condition should be monitored closely. In the case of overdose, severe blood pressure drop and heart issues can occur, so the dosage must be strictly followed. If overdose is suspected, seek emergency treatment immediately.
