Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of thromboembolism, which is the formation of blood clots in the blood vessels. This risk is particularly highest during the first year of treatment, so caution is needed. This medication is not recommended for women at high risk for blood clots. Factors such as advanced age, obesity, immobility, surgery, major trauma, and cancer can increase the risk of thrombosis. In cases of limited mobility, this medication should be discontinued and can be resumed once full mobility is regained. Additionally, during long journeys, regular movement is necessary. This medication is used only for postmenopausal women, and its safety has not been established in premenopausal women, so it is not recommended. There is no evidence that this medication causes abnormalities in the endometrium; however, if uterine bleeding occurs during use, a specialist should be consulted. Safety has not been confirmed in breast cancer patients, and its use for the prevention or treatment of breast cancer is not recommended. Patients with an allergy to this medication or its components, a history of thromboembolism, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing women, patients with unexplained uterine bleeding, patients with symptoms of endometrial cancer, patients with hypercalcemia or kidney stones, and patients with certain hereditary lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with hypertriglyceridemia, renal or hepatic dysfunction, history of kidney stones, restricted mobility, or those taking certain medications should use this medication with caution and discuss it with their doctor. When taking this medication, side effects such as facial flushing due to vasodilation, leg cramps, drowsiness, dry mouth, urticaria, rash, muscle cramps, peripheral edema, elevated triglyceride levels, elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT), elevated aspartate aminotransferase (AST), vision impairment, blurred vision, photophobia, visual field defects, visual disturbances, dry eyes, eyelid edema, eyelid twitching, eye pain, eye swelling, vomiting, gastritis, colon polyps, belching, allergic reactions, and chest discomfort may occur. If vision impairment or any eye-related symptoms occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. Patients with insufficient calcium intake are recommended to take calcium supplements, and additional vitamin D supplementation may be necessary for patients at high risk of vitamin D deficiency. Weight-bearing exercises and healthy lifestyle habits are also important. Caution should be taken while driving or operating machinery as drowsiness or vision disturbances may occur. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote and treatment should be based on the symptoms. In cases of vitamin D overdose, there is a risk of hypercalcemia and kidney stones, so blood and urine tests should be performed to check calcium levels.
