Effective in alleviating the symptoms of gastric ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease, as well as treating Helicobacter pylori infection.
This medication is used to treat gastrointestinal ulcer diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers and alleviate symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for long-term maintenance treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. For patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, it is combined with antibiotics for treatment, and it is used in conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, characterized by excessive acid secretion. This drug aids in treating various gastrointestinal-related illnesses.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: 10 mg is administered orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered once daily. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg is administered once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms do not improve after 8 weeks of proton pump inhibitor therapy, an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg may be administered orally twice daily.
This drug should not be administered to certain patients. Individuals who are allergic to this drug or its components, those allergic to certain antibiotics, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication. In addition, patients with impaired liver function or the elderly, and those with a history of allergies should use this drug cautiously. This medication can cause allergic reactions such as skin rashes, hives, and itching, and if these symptoms occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Blood tests may show changes in red or white blood cell counts, so regular blood tests are necessary. Liver function abnormalities may occur, so liver function tests should also be conducted regularly, and if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice appear, the medication should be stopped immediately. Caution is necessary for individuals with heart disease as it can affect the heart and blood vessels. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur, and any unusual symptoms should be reported. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and insomnia may occur. Respiratory issues such as cough or difficulty breathing may also arise, so symptoms should be monitored. Musculoskeletal abnormalities such as muscle pain or joint pain have also been reported. Skin reactions like rashes or hair loss, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur. Ocular symptoms such as visual disturbances or tinnitus may arise. Urinary tract issues may occur, so if there is difficulty urinating or hematuria, this should be reported. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of bone fractures, so caution is advised for patients taking it for extended periods. Additionally, hypomagnesemia may develop, so magnesium levels should be checked regularly. This medication can reduce stomach acid, potentially increasing the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach, so if diarrhea persists for an extended period, consultation with a doctor is recommended. Caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. Drug interactions may occur, so especially when taking with warfarin, methotrexate, or certain antibiotics, consulting a doctor is necessary. It is safest not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Elderly patients may be at higher risk of side effects due to decreased liver function, so they should report any symptoms immediately. This medication should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed. It should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
