This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular intervention, and angina in adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors and patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, patients with clinical evidence can expect a reduced risk of hospitalization due to congestive heart failure. It is used to lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels, and to increase HDL-cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia, in conjunction with a dietary regimen. It is especially effective for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and elevated serum triglycerides. In children with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it can be used as an adjunct to diet therapy to reduce cholesterol levels. This medicine is used for reducing cardiovascular risk and improving dyslipidemia.
