This medication is prescribed to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes taking both linagliptin and metformin. It is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to effectively improve blood glucose levels. Therefore, this medication is used to enhance blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

The dosage of this medication is determined based on the patient's treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance, not exceeding Linagliptin 2.5 mg and Metformin 1000 mg twice a day. This medication is to be taken twice daily with meals. 1. For patients not previously treated with Metformin: An initial dose of 2.5/500 mg is taken twice daily, with a maximum increase to 2.5/1000 mg.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious side effects, such as lactic acidosis, so patients with poor kidney function or heart disease, or liver dysfunction should not use it. Additionally, patients with allergies to the ingredients of this medication or patients with type 1 diabetes, acute infections, or dehydration should not take it. There is a risk of hypoglycemia when used in conjunction with sulfonylureas or insulin, so caution is necessary, and blood glucose levels should be closely monitored. Kidney function should be regularly checked, and extra caution is necessary for elderly patients or those at risk for decreased kidney function. Rare side effects such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid can occur, so if there are persistent and severe abdominal pains or blisters on the skin, a doctor should be informed immediately. Furthermore, vitamin B12 levels may decrease, thus regular blood tests are necessary during long-term use. This medication is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and should be avoided if pregnancy is planned.
