How to take

Adult dose

The dose of this medication should be determined considering the maximum recommended doses of each component, which is linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin 1000 mg not to exceed twice a day, based on each patient's current treatment regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability. This medication is administered twice a day with meals. 1. If currently not being treated with metformin: For the initial dose, administer this medication 2.5/500 mg twice a day, 1 tablet at a time.

Precautions

This medication is designed to help regulate blood sugar levels. However, a rare side effect called lactic acidosis can occur during treatment, which is a serious condition requiring immediate treatment. This medication should not be used in patients with certain conditions, such as type 1 diabetes, severe kidney impairment, liver dysfunction, acute heart issues, acute infections, or pregnant women. Additionally, since this medication can cause hypoglycemia, caution is needed when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Patients with reduced kidney function should undergo regular kidney function tests, and if kidney function falls below a certain standard, this medication should be discontinued. It should be temporarily stopped before and after surgery or radiological examinations, and can be resumed once kidney function has recovered post-surgery. If sudden abdominal pain, severe joint pain, or symptoms such as blistering on the skin occur during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. Long-term use may decrease vitamin B12 levels, so monitoring through blood tests may be necessary if needed. This medication can interact with several other drugs, so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication and is not recommended for children or adolescents. Elderly patients may commonly experience decreased kidney function, so careful dosage adjustments and regular kidney function checks are necessary. In the event of overdose, there is a risk of gastrointestinal disturbances or lactic acidosis, requiring immediate hospital treatment, and blood dialysis may be necessary. Store this medication in a closed container, keeping it away from moisture and direct sunlight, and out of reach of children.
