Improvement of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia
This medication is used to alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. It improves dementia-related symptoms such as memory decline and cognitive dysfunction, thereby assisting the patient's daily living abilities.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. Administer the 5 mg dose for 4 to 6 weeks and may increase to 10 mg after evaluating clinical response. When increasing to 10 mg daily, monitor for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight female patients aged 85 and older should not exceed 5 mg daily.

This medication utilizes Donepezil Hydrochloride Monohydrate as its active ingredient to alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia. Firstly, this medication should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, individuals allergic to this drug or its components, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should also refrain from taking this medication. Patients with heart disease or cardiac conduction disorders should use this medication with caution, as it may slow heart rate or provoke arrhythmias. Those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or with a history of peptic ulcers should also be cautious, as there is a risk of gastrointestinal bleeding or exacerbation of ulcers. Patients with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should be careful, as symptoms might worsen due to bronchoconstriction and increased mucus secretion. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders like Parkinson’s disease may also experience exacerbation of symptoms. During the course of taking this medication, various adverse reactions may occur. Commonly experienced symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, and insomnia. Cardiac-related adverse reactions such as bradycardia, heart block, and myocardial infarction have also been reported, and severe cases may result in syncope or cardiac arrest. Furthermore, serious adverse reactions such as liver dysfunction, seizures, extrapyramidal symptoms, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure may occur rarely, and one should consult medical personnel immediately if any abnormal symptoms arise. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, caution is warranted, especially when used in conjunction with drugs affecting the CYP3A4 or CYP2D6 enzymes. Combining with anticholinergic agents, neuromuscular blockers, beta-blockers, and NSAIDs may alter efficacy or increase the risk of side effects. It is advisable for women who are pregnant or nursing to avoid this medication, and if necessary, to decide after consulting a specialist thoroughly. Safety in pediatric use has not been established; hence, this medication should not be used in children. This medication may affect driving or machinery operation, so caution should be exercised during the initial use or following a change in dosage. In case of overdose, serious symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, respiratory depression, and seizures may appear, necessitating immediate medical attention. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to other containers.
