This medication is used to treat hypertension and stable angina due to fixed coronary artery occlusion, as well as variant angina caused by coronary artery vasospasm.

How to take

Adult dose

Take with a sufficient amount of water. Administer orally 2.5 mg once daily as esamlodipine, and may increase to a maximum of 5 mg daily based on the patient's response. Adjust based on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by certain patients. Patients who have had an allergy to this drug, its components, or similar classes of drugs should not take it. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication. Patients in shock with severely weakened heart function, those with severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina patients, patients within one month after a myocardial infarction, those with severe liver dysfunction, and patients with severe hypotension should also not take this medication. Furthermore, patients with severely impaired kidney function, the elderly, those with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, and patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should take this medication with caution. This drug generally has fewer side effects, but at the beginning of treatment, patients may experience facial flushing or a sensation of heat, fatigue, and swelling. Rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, indigestion, drowsiness, and ankle swelling may also occur. Rarely, symptoms such as dry mouth, increased sweating, hypotension, fainting, sensory abnormalities, erectile dysfunction, and skin rashes may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be discussed with a physician. Abruptly stopping this medication can worsen symptoms, so it should not be discontinued without medical advice. Patients with impaired liver function may experience prolonged effects of this medication, so dosage adjustment may be necessary. This medication works slowly, so it is not suitable for situations requiring rapid symptom improvement. It should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and since dizziness or drowsiness may occur, caution should be exercised when driving or operating dangerous machinery. There may be interactions when taken with other medications, so if other medications are being taken, the doctor or pharmacist must be informed. Particular caution is required when used in combination with certain antibiotics, antihypertensive drugs, hypoglycemic agents, grapefruit juice, etc. It is safest not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and if breastfeeding, nursing should be discontinued. This medication can only be used in children aged 6 and above, as safety and efficacy have not been confirmed in younger ages. Elderly patients generally have higher drug concentrations and prolonged effects, so they should start at a low dose and take it carefully. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, cardiac abnormalities, and consciousness disorders may occur, requiring immediate medical care.
