How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered twice daily with meals. The dosage is determined based on the individual patient’s current therapy, efficacy, and tolerance, not exceeding the daily max of Linagliptin 2.5 mg and Metformin 1000 mg. 1. If currently not treated with Metformin: Take this medication 2.5/500 mg twice daily, 1 tablet each time, and can increase to 2.5/1000 mg twice daily, 1 tablet each time.

Precautions

This medication is primarily used for diabetes treatment and helps in controlling blood sugar levels. However, this medication can cause serious side effects such as lactic acidosis, so patients with poor kidney function or liver issues should not use it. Patients with type 1 diabetes, a specific form of diabetes, or diabetic ketoacidosis should also not take this medication. Patients with severely decreased heart or lung function, those in acute infections, severe trauma, or in shock should avoid using this medication. It is also advised that pregnant or breastfeeding women do not take this medication for safety. When using this medication with other antidiabetic agents, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is required, especially if used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, as dosage adjustments may be necessary. Elderly patients with decreased kidney function or those taking medications that affect the kidneys should regularly undergo kidney function tests and adjust usage of this medication as needed. Additionally, this medication can cause rare side effects such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid, so if abdominal pain or skin abnormalities occur while taking it, immediate medical consultation is necessary. This medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is advisable to regularly check vitamin B12 levels during long-term use. If iodine contrast agents are used during radiological examinations, this medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after the examination due to the risk of decreased kidney function and lactic acidosis. Patients undergoing surgery should also stop this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and resume only after confirming recovery of kidney function post-surgery. In case of planning a pregnancy or if pregnant, insulin therapy is recommended instead of this medication, and this medication is also safe to avoid during breastfeeding. Use of this medication is not recommended in children under 10 years old, and safety and efficacy have not been adequately confirmed in adolescents over 10 years old. There have been no studies conducted on the effects of this medication on driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed. In cases of overdose, serious side effects such as lactic acidosis can occur, so immediate medical attention should be sought.
