Treatment of essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medicine is used for the treatment of essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular disease in patients aged 55 and older who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease and cannot use ACE inhibitors. It is particularly effective in preventing cardiovascular complications in patients with coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or high-risk diabetes. This medication is used to protect cardiovascular health and lower the risk of related diseases.
For essential hypertension, Telmisartan is administered as 40 mg once daily orally with water. It can be taken regardless of meals. For some patients, 20 mg once daily may be effective, and if necessary, the dosage can be increased to 80 mg once daily. Dose increases should be made after 4-8 weeks of treatment to achieve maximum antihypertensive effect. To reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, 80 mg once daily is recommended to be taken orally with water and can be taken regardless of meals. The efficacy of lower doses than 80 mg for reducing morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease is not known. When initiating treatment for cardiovascular disease risk reduction, monitoring of blood pressure is recommended, and appropriate adjustment of antihypertensive medication may be necessary. ○ For patients with liver impairment Care should be taken when administering to patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, and the dose should not exceed 40 mg once daily.
