How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

For mild to moderate infections, 1 to 2 drops should be instilled into the affected area every 4 hours. For severe infections, 2 drops should be instilled every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually reduced. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and should not be used in patients with allergies to specific antibiotics or bacitracin. When administered to the eye, symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness, allergic conjunctivitis, and temporary burning sensation may occur, and use should be discontinued immediately if these symptoms arise. Additionally, irritation or discomfort in the eyes can occasionally occur, so caution is advised. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, the sensitivity of the infectious agents should be confirmed, and it should be used only for the minimum necessary duration. It is advisable to verify the possibility of side effects through thorough patient history and skin reaction tests in those with a history of allergic reactions. In cases of repeated or prolonged use, excessive proliferation of other bacteria may occur, thus use should be ceased and appropriate treatment sought. This medication should not be used in conjunction with tetracycline antibiotics. Furthermore, if systemic aminoglycosides are administered, blood concentration should be monitored closely. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. Vision may temporarily be blurred after administration, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision returns to normal. When used with anticoagulants, the risk of bleeding may increase, so blood coagulation status should be checked frequently, and the dosage of anticoagulants adjusted as necessary. During pregnancy, it should be used only when absolutely necessary, and during breastfeeding, nursing should be discontinued or this medication should be used only when the benefits outweigh the risks to the infant. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as keratitis, redness, increased tearing, swelling, and itching may occur, thus blood concentrations should be managed, and hemodialysis considered if necessary. Injecting directly into the eye is contraindicated, and caution is needed as there is a high rate of resistant bacteria.
