This medication is used to treat essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality due to cardiovascular disease in patients over 55 years old who are at high risk, such as those with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attacks, or those with high-risk diabetes. It is used to improve cardiovascular health.

How to take

Adult dose

Essential Hypertension Telmisartan should be taken orally once daily at a dose of 40 mg with water, and it can be taken regardless of meals. In some patients, a dose of 20 mg once daily may be effective. If necessary, the dosage can be increased to 80 mg once daily. When increasing the dosage, the maximal antihypertensive effect typically occurs 4 to 8 weeks after starting treatment. Precautions

This medication can pose serious risks, especially to the fetus and newborn, during pregnancy, so usage should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be used in individuals with an allergy to this drug, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver disease or bile duct obstruction, patients with hereditary angioedema, and patients with diabetes or severe kidney disease. Especially in cases of rapid blood pressure drop or symptoms of fainting or loss of consciousness, immediate treatment is required, and regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolyte levels is important. This medication may enhance the hypotensive effect or affect kidney function when taken with other antihypertensives, so consultations with healthcare professionals are necessary when combining with other medications. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and it is advisable for breastfeeding women to avoid this medication as well. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 18 years old; therefore, it is not recommended.
