Improvement of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastric mucosal lesions, and relief of excessive gastric acid
This medication is used to treat ulcers in the stomach and duodenum and is also indicated for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is applicable to patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease, assists in the prevention of postoperative ulcers, and helps treat ulcers caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Furthermore, it improves gastric mucosal lesions such as eroded areas, bleeding, redness, and swelling during acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis and during upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is effective in relieving symptoms of heartburn or acid regurgitation caused by excessive gastric acid. Overall, it is used to effectively treat various gastrointestinal diseases and symptoms.
As ranitidine, administer 150 mg orally, twice a day, in the morning and at bedtime. - Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Administer 150 mg orally, twice a day or 300 mg once a day at bedtime. - For patients with duodenal ulcers: Administer 300 mg twice a day, in the morning and at bedtime for better treatment rates. - In the case of ulcer treatment induced by NSAID administration, the dosage is the same as above.
For children aged 8 to 18 years, a single dose of 150 mg (2 mg per kg of body weight) can be administered, up to twice a day.
This drug should not be used in patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to its components. This medication should not be administered to patients with a history of acute porphyria as it may provoke seizures. It contains lactose, hence it should not be given to patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic problems. Patients with impaired kidney function need dosage adjustment as this drug may remain in the body for a longer period. Caution is required for patients with liver dysfunction. Patients with a history of drug allergy and the elderly should also be carefully administered this medication. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs concomitantly need to be monitored for side effects. Because this drug may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, gastric ulcer patients or older patients with new dyspeptic symptoms should be assessed for malignancy before treatment. In cases of Helicobacter pylori infection, eradication therapy should be conducted concurrently. This medication may rarely cause severe allergic reactions or shock; thus, if any unusual symptoms appear, use should be immediately discontinued and medical attention sought. Symptoms such as decreased blood cell count, liver dysfunction, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal issues, and neurological abnormalities may occur; consultation with a physician is required if these symptoms arise. Symptoms of mental confusion, blurred vision, and seizures have also been reported, necessitating caution if neurological symptoms appear. Myalgia, arthralgia, and skin rashes may also occur rarely. During treatment, the course of the disease should be closely monitored, and treatment should be conducted with the minimum effective dose. If no effect is observed, alternative treatment should be sought. The elderly, and those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or immune compromise may experience a higher risk of pneumonia and should take care. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. This medication may interact with other drugs; thus, if there are concomitant medications, consulting a physician or pharmacist is necessary. Especially when used with anticoagulants, bleeding risks must be closely monitored. It may also affect the absorption or excretion of certain drugs, thus necessitating adjustments in dosing times. Pregnant women or those who might become pregnant should use this medication only if the benefits outweigh the risks, and its use should also be approached with caution in breastfeeding women. The safety in children is not well established; hence caution is necessary. The elderly may have prolonged retention of the drug in the body due to decreased kidney function, requiring reduction of dosage or extension of dosing intervals. Some tests may be affected by this medication, so it is advisable to adjust the testing methods. No significant issues have been reported in cases of overdose, yet appropriate treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be required. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided as it could result in accidents or degradation of quality.
