View approved original text

This medication is used to assist in various ophthalmic surgeries, such as cataract surgery for lens implantation, corneal transplantation, and glaucoma surgery.

How it is given

Adult administration

1. During cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation, slowly inject into the anterior chamber of the eye using a syringe or cannula before or after lens removal. It should be injected before cataract surgery in the capsule and can also be used for coating surgical instruments and the intraocular lens. 2. During corneal transplantation surgery, the anterior chamber should be filled with this drug until the corneal surface and water levels match after the corneal graft has been removed, placing the donor graft on top of this drug and suturing it. 3. In glaucoma filtration surgery, this drug is injected via corneal puncture to supplement and maintain anterior chamber volume.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to the ingredients or protein-based drugs. Ocular-related side effects may include increased intraocular pressure, inflammation, corneal edema and opacity, bleeding, and abnormalities of the iris, as well as pain, itching, and decreased vision. There is also a potential for cloudy areas to develop on the surface of the intraocular lens. Since this drug contains phosphates, caution is needed as corneal calcification may rarely occur in patients with severe corneal damage. Intraocular pressure should be carefully monitored immediately after surgery, and appropriate treatment must be done if pressure increases. It is advisable to remove this drug as much as possible through cleansing or aspiration post-surgery. Before ultrasound emulsification aspiration, an infusion should be performed to fill the irrigating solution between the lens and this drug for safety purposes. When cleaning surgical instruments, solutions containing quaternary ammonium compounds like benzalkonium chloride should not be used. As this drug is separated and purified from avian cells, the possibility of an immune response or other risks should be considered. This drug should not be used in conjunction with the enzyme hyaluronidase. It is for ophthalmic use only and must not be injected intravenously. Prior to use, the refrigerated drug should be allowed to reach room temperature for 30 minutes, and after opening, it should be used only once, with any remaining drug discarded immediately. When mixing this drug with air, care should be taken to avoid air entering below the iris, and the injection should be done slowly and carefully. When injecting into the anterior chamber, care is needed to avoid excessive volume, as overdosing may lead to increased intraocular pressure. When storing, keep it out of reach of children, protected from direct sunlight, and sealed in a cool, dry place.
