Improvement of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastric mucosal lesions, alleviation of excess stomach acid
This medication is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Additionally, it is effective in preventing Mendelson syndrome before surgery and treating ulcers caused by NSAID use. It also helps improve acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis, acute gastric mucosal damage, and bleeding. It can also be used to relieve heartburn or sour stomach caused by excess stomach acid. Overall, it effectively protects the gastric mucosa and improves symptoms of ulcers and inflammation.
For adults, as ranitidine, take 150 mg orally twice a day, in the morning and at bedtime. For gastric and duodenal ulcers, take 150 mg orally twice a day or 300 mg once a day at bedtime. For patients with duodenal ulcers, 300 mg can be administered orally twice a day, in the morning and at bedtime. For ulcers or prevention caused by NSAIDs, the dosages are the same.
For children aged 8 to 18 years, 150 mg (2 mg per kg body weight) can be administered up to twice a day.
This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or any of its components. Patients with a history of a rare blood disorder known as acute porphyria may also experience seizures when taking this drug, so it should not be administered. Patients with reduced kidney function may have increased blood concentration of this drug since it is excreted through the kidneys, and dosages may need to be reduced or dosing intervals extended. Patients with impaired liver function should also use this drug with caution. Patients with a history of drug allergies should take it cautiously. Elderly patients may experience decreased bodily functions, so caution is required when administering this medication. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), especially elderly patients or those with a history of peptic ulcer, should be monitored regularly for their condition. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those who have recently developed or changed digestive symptoms should be evaluated to rule out malignancy before use. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori should undergo concurrent eradication therapy. This drug can rarely cause severe allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock, so if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, rash, or decreased blood pressure occur during use, the medication should be stopped immediately, and medical assistance should be sought. If symptoms of hypersensitivity such as hives, rash, or bronchospasm occur, use should be discontinued. Blood tests may show decreased white blood cell or platelet counts, so if symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, or fever occur, tests should be conducted, and the medication may need to be discontinued. Liver dysfunction may occur, so if symptoms such as jaundice, fatigue, or loss of appetite appear, medication should be stopped immediately. Irregular heartbeats may occasionally occur, so caution should be exercised if there are symptoms like dizziness or palpitations. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, nausea, or abdominal pain may occur, so if symptoms are severe, medical consultation is advised. Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, insomnia, and mental confusion may rarely occur, so elderly patients or those with kidney disease should take caution. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this drug when absolutely necessary, as its safety has not been established. Women who are breastfeeding should also take this medication only when necessary, as it can pass into breast milk. For children, safety has not been adequately established, so caution should be exercised when using this medication. Elderly patients may experience increased medication concentrations due to decreased kidney function, so dosage adjustments may be required. This drug may give false-positive results in urine protein tests during blood tests, so care should be taken with testing methods. Severe side effects from overdose are rare, but appropriate treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage should be received, and blood dialysis may be performed if necessary. Keep out of reach of children, and do not transfer to other containers as it may lead to quality degradation or accidents. This medication may promote bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract by reducing stomach acid secretion, so regular examinations including eye checks are necessary for long-term use.
