This drug is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone when first starting medication therapy and supplements dietary and exercise therapies. If blood sugar control is insufficient, it is used in combination with other drugs such as metformin, sulfonylureas, empagliflozin, and insulin. Particularly, this medication is added when blood sugar control is challenging even with multiple medications. This drug can be flexibly used at various stages of treatment, making it effective in improving blood sugar levels.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be taken regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to the active ingredient or any other component. It should also not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is necessary when used with other drugs that can cause hypoglycemia, such as insulin or sulfonylureas, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. Experience with this drug in patients with heart failure is limited, so it should be used cautiously. Acute pancreatitis may occur while taking this medication; therefore, if severe abdominal pain persists, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. A skin condition known as bullous pemphigoid may appear, so if blisters or skin irritation occur, inform your doctor immediately. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur during treatment with this drug, so symptoms should be closely monitored, and appropriate action should be taken if necessary. The safety of this medication has not been established in pregnant women, so its use is not recommended; breastfeeding women should also use it cautiously. This medication is not recommended for children under 10 or adolescents, as safety and efficacy have not been adequately confirmed. Elderly patients may use this drug like general adults, and dosage adjustments are not needed. Patients with diminished kidney or liver function can also use this medication without dosage adjustments. In the case of overdose, the drug remaining in the gastrointestinal tract should be removed, and symptoms should be observed, providing appropriate treatment if necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it may negatively affect the quality.
