Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
If blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine or valsartan, this medicine helps lower blood pressure more effectively, aiding in the treatment of essential hypertension. Hypertension is a condition that requires continuous management to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and this medication is used to alleviate the burden on the heart and blood vessels to maintain health. Therefore, this medicine is useful for improving essential hypertension.
The recommended dose for this medication is 1 tablet once daily, to be taken with water regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day (e.g., morning). For patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, no dose adjustment is needed; however, severe renal impairment patients and dialysis patients should not take this medication. In patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment, the daily dose of valsartan should not exceed 80mg.
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under the age of 18 have not been established; thus, the use of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so use must be discontinued immediately upon pregnancy confirmation. Patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severe kidney or liver disease, and those with certain heart conditions should not take this medication. Patients with low sodium or fluid levels in the body should manage their condition before taking this medication and should be carefully monitored during use as blood pressure may drop too low. Patients with high potassium levels should be cautious when taking this medication alongside other drugs that increase potassium, and regularly check blood potassium levels. Patients with issues in renal blood vessels or those who have had a kidney transplant must use this medication cautiously as kidney function may worsen. If symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face, lips, or tongue occur while taking this medication, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Patients who have heart failure or have had a myocardial infarction should periodically check kidney function and blood pressure while taking this medication, as symptoms of heart failure may worsen. This medication may interact with other antihypertensive agents or specific drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken. Caution is necessary as dizziness or fatigue may occur when driving or operating machinery. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension or arrhythmia may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. This medicine is not recommended for children under the age of 18 as its safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established. Elderly patients may take the same dose as adults, but should follow healthcare professionals' guidance based on individual conditions. It is important to monitor kidney function and electrolyte status with regular blood pressure measurements and blood tests. This medication is best avoided by women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding.
