Precautions

This medication can cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with significantly impaired kidney function or poor liver function. Additionally, it should not be administered to type 1 diabetes patients or those with diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic pre-coma. It is safer not to use this medication during acute illnesses such as severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid taking this medication, and those planning pregnancy should consult their doctor. Patients taking this medication may experience symptoms of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be closely monitored, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea class drugs. Elderly patients with reduced kidney function should undergo regular kidney function tests and may require dosage adjustments. When iodine contrast agents are administered during surgical or radiological examinations, this medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after the examination, resuming only after kidney function has stabilized. This medication may cause skin conditions such as acute pancreatitis or blistering dermatitis, so if abdominal pain or skin blisters occur, inform a doctor immediately. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, so if anemia or neurological symptoms occur, vitamin B12 levels should be checked. There may be interactions with other medications taken alongside this one, so it's important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications being used. It is not recommended for children and adolescents under 10 years old, as safety and efficacy have not been established. The impact on driving or operating machinery is not known, so caution is advised. In case of overdose, there is a risk of lactic acidosis; if side effects occur, seek medical attention immediately.
