Improvement of essential hypertension and dyslipidemia (such as hypercholesterolemia)
This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is insufficiently controlled when using amlodipine and valsartan alone. Additionally, atorvastatin is administered as an adjunct when dietary changes and exercise cannot control hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. Atorvastatin is particularly effective in slowing the progression of atherosclerosis, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, and preventing problems related to stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization. Thus, this medication is effectively used to improve the health of patients who require simultaneous management of blood pressure and lipids.
This medication should be taken once daily, 1 tablet at a time with water. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g. before breakfast). The amlodipine/valsartan combination can be administered in dosages of 5/80 mg, 5/160 mg, or 10/160 mg depending on blood pressure control. Atorvastatin should be started at 5 mg once daily, with the possibility of increasing to 10 mg as necessary. The maximum dosage is 1 day 2.
This medication can cause severe harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Individuals with allergies to the ingredients in this medication, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, should not take it. Patients with severely impaired liver function, significantly poor kidney function, or certain liver diseases should also refrain from taking this medication. As this medication lowers blood pressure, patients who are low in sodium or fluids should check their condition and exercise caution before taking it. Patients with high potassium levels or those taking medications that may increase potassium should have their potassium levels frequently monitored. Patients with renal artery stenosis or those who have undergone kidney transplantation should be carefully monitored by a physician as this medication may affect kidney function. Patients with heart failure or following a myocardial infarction should regularly monitor their kidney function and blood pressure during treatment with this medication. This medication may cause side effects associated with muscle pain, muscle weakness, and rarely, severe muscle damage; therefore, any unusual symptoms related to muscles should be reported to a physician immediately. Dizziness or fatigue may occur, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it’s crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications being taken. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, nor should it be used by women planning to become pregnant. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been established, and it is not recommended for this population. Generally, elderly patients do not need dosage adjustments, but they should take it cautiously and be closely monitored. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, decreased consciousness, and shock may occur, so immediate medical attention is required.
