Improvement in blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes achieve more effective blood glucose control when combined with dietary and exercise therapy. The combination of linagliptin and metformin works together to help maintain stable blood glucose levels. It is especially suitable for those who find it difficult to control their blood glucose levels with existing dietary and exercise therapies alone. Consistent intake will result in improved blood glucose control, significantly aiding diabetes management.
This medication is administered twice a day with meals. 1. If not currently being treated with metformin, the initial dosage is this medication 2.5/500 mg, taking 1 tablet twice a day and may increase to 1 tablet of 2.5/1000 mg twice a day. 2. If sufficient blood glucose control cannot be achieved with metformin monotherapy, the initial dosage should be linagliptin 2.5 mg twice a day and metformin.
This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and aids in blood glucose control. Do not use this medication in patients with decreased kidney function or liver dysfunction. Particularly, in cases of severe renal impairment, taking this medication can result in a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, posing significant risk. Lactic acidosis is a rare but very dangerous condition, with symptoms including abdominal pain, muscle pain, weakness, respiratory distress, and hypothermia. If such symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately. It is advisable not to administer this medication to pregnant or breastfeeding women, and consultation with a doctor is necessary if planning to become pregnant. Additionally, during the course of taking this medication, regular checks on kidney function and vitamin B12 levels should be conducted to identify any abnormalities. There may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia when taken with sulfonylureas or insulin, so blood glucose levels should be monitored closely. This medication should be temporarily suspended in situations that may cause a temporary decline in kidney function, such as acute infections, dehydration, severe trauma, pre- and post-operative states, and administration of radiocontrast agents. This medication may cause side effects including gastrointestinal disorders, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, and may rarely result in symptoms like pancreatitis, skin rash, or joint pain. If severe abdominal pain, indicative of acute pancreatitis, occurs, discontinue the medication immediately and consult healthcare personnel. This medication is not recommended for children and dosage adjustments should be made for elderly patients considering their kidney function. While taking this medication, it is advisable to avoid alcohol. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist of all current medications. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept away from moisture.
