Summary

Main use
Effective in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis (including gastroesophageal reflux) and in the prevention of Mendelson syndrome.
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Usually, regardless of meals, 2 tablets are taken orally 2 times a day before morning and bedtime. 1) Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers: 2 tablets are administered 2 times a day or 4 tablets once a day before bedtime. Especially for patients with duodenal ulcers, administering 4 tablets 2 times a day before morning and bedtime can achieve a higher treatment rate. Ulcer caused by the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or for preventive combination therapy against gastric and duodenal ulcer occurrence due to long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs involves the same dosage. Generally, conditions caused by the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can heal within 8 weeks, although healing time may occasionally be prolonged depending on the patient. For patients with recurrent ulcers who exhibited excellent results during short-term therapy, a maintenance dose of 2 tablets once a day before bedtime is advised. 2) Gastroesophageal Reflux: Administer 2 tablets 2 times a day for 8 weeks or 4 tablets once a day before bedtime. However, for severe gastroesophageal reflux patients, the dosage may be increased to 4 tablets 4 times a day. 3) Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Initiate treatment with an initial dose of 2 tablets 3 times a day, with possible increases as needed. In severe conditions, a daily dose of 6 g of ranitidine may be administered according to the physician's instructions. 4) Peptic ulcer, acute stress ulcer, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to acute mucosal lesions: Once oral administration becomes possible, transition from injection to oral administration of 2 tablets 2 times a day. 5) Pre-anesthetic dosing (to prevent Mendelson syndrome): Administer 2 tablets 2 hours before anesthesia induction. In this case, it is also good to administer 2 tablets the night before surgery.

It is also used to treat conditions like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, associated with excessive gastric acid secretion, and aids in the prevention of Mendelson syndrome during preoperative anesthesia. Moreover, it can manage ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Therefore, this medicine is widely used in the treatment of gastrointestinal-related disorders.

Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori require eradication therapy.
