This medication is used to treat peptic ulcers such as gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It also alleviates symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and assists in the maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease that requires long-term treatment. In patients infected with Helicobacter pylori, it enhances therapeutic efficacy when used in combination with antibiotics. Additionally, it is effective in conditions associated with excessive gastric acid production, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is utilized to improve various gastrointestinal-related diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers: Administer 10 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, it can be administered up to 20 mg once daily. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer either 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, individuals with allergies to this medication or its components, or those with a history of hypersensitivity should avoid use. Caution is also required when used in combination by individuals allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics. It is advisable that pregnant or breastfeeding women do not take this medication. Patients with liver function issues, the elderly, or those with a history of drug hypersensitivity should use this medication with caution. Allergic reactions such as skin rashes, itching, or hives may occur while taking this medication; if such symptoms arise, users should immediately discontinue use. Regular blood tests are necessary as blood tests may show changes in red or white blood cell counts. Since it may affect liver function, regular liver function tests are required due to possible elevated liver enzyme levels or symptoms such as hepatitis and jaundice. Various abnormal reactions like cardiac symptoms, blood pressure changes, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological symptoms have been reported, so users should be attentive to their health conditions. As this medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures and lead to electrolyte imbalances such as hypomagnesemia. Therefore, regular monitoring of magnesium levels is important during prolonged use. This medication can interact with other drugs; therefore, especially when taken with antibiotics, antivirals, or anticoagulants, consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is necessary. Do not chew or crush the tablets; swallow them whole, and keep them out of reach of children. If any abnormal symptoms occur, it is important to consult with a professional immediately.
