View approved original text

This medication is used to help improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy and can be administered alone. If the patient has not used diabetes medications previously or if it is difficult to control blood sugar with monotherapy, it can be combined with metformin. Additionally, if blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy of metformin or sulfonylureas, this medication is used together. It is also combined when control is difficult with insulin therapy, and can enhance therapeutic effects even when treatment is insufficient with multiple medications. This medication improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or other components. It should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is required when used with other medications that may cause hypoglycemia, especially insulin or sulfonylurea class medications. In this case, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Experience with administration in patients with heart failure is limited, so it should be used cautiously. Acute pancreatitis may occur, so if persistent and severe abdominal pain appears, stop taking the medicine immediately and consult a doctor. A skin condition called bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if blisters or skin irritation appear, it should be reported to a doctor immediately. During the use of this medication, joint pain may worsen or disabilities may arise, hence consulting a doctor is necessary if these symptoms occur. Although the potential for interactions with other medications is low, caution may be required when taken with certain medications. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a physician before using this medication. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 10 years of age, and therefore it is not recommended. Elderly patients can use it without special dosage adjustments, but patients with impaired kidney or liver function may also be given it without separate dosage adjustments. In case of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought, and general supportive measures may be required. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
