Precautions

This medication helps in controlling blood sugar levels. However, rare side effects such as lactic acidosis can occur when taking this medication, which is a serious condition requiring immediate treatment. Individuals who are allergic to any of the ingredients or components of this medication, patients with type 1 diabetes, and those with severe renal impairment should not take this medication. Particularly, it is safer for patients with impaired kidney function, acute infections, dehydration, severely compromised heart or liver function, pregnant women, or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication. This medication carries a low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone, but the risk may increase when used in conjunction with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, so caution is necessary. Due to potential deterioration of kidney function, regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor kidney status, and this medication may have to be discontinued if kidney function declines. Additionally, rare side effects like acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid, which presents with skin blisters, can occur, so it is important to consult a doctor immediately if there are abdominal pain or skin abnormalities. During the use of this medication, vitamin B12 levels can decline, so if used long-term, it is advisable to have regular vitamin B12 tests. This medication can interact with certain drugs, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. Women who are pregnant or considering pregnancy should not use this medication, and those who are breastfeeding should avoid taking it as a precaution. It is recommended that this medication is not used in children under 10 years old or adolescents, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly individuals may have reduced kidney function, so it is advisable to periodically check kidney function and start at the minimal dose when using this medication. There is no research on the effects of this medication on driving or operating machinery, so caution is necessary. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances and lactic acidosis may occur, requiring immediate hospital treatment. Store this medication out of reach of children, and keep it dry in its original container.
