Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
This medication is used in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. It effectively lowers blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular issues and helping to maintain a healthy blood pressure state.
The recommended dosage for adults is 1 tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, to be taken with a small amount of water irrespective of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is applicable when prescribed for hypertension. No dosage adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment (creatinine clearance greater than 30 mL/min). For patients with mild liver impairment without cholestasis, do not exceed 80 mg per day of Valsartan.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies or a history of hypersensitivity to any components of this medication or sulfonamide medications should not use it. This medication is not suitable for patients with severe liver dysfunction, bile secretion disorders, severely impaired kidney function, or specific electrolyte imbalances. Diabetic patients or those with moderately or severely impaired kidney function need special attention, and consultation with a physician is required as there could be risks when combined with certain medications. This medication lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness or hypotensive symptoms when taken for the first time, so caution is advised. It is also important to be careful if there are signs of dehydration or excessive sweating. Patients should be careful not to take potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications without consultation with a physician. Patients with kidney or liver diseases should regularly have blood tests to monitor kidney and liver function and electrolyte status while taking this medication. This medication can cause photosensitivity reactions, increasing the risk of skin cancer, so it is advisable to reduce sun exposure and report any skin abnormalities to healthcare professionals immediately. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. If severe allergic reactions, angioedema, hepatitis, kidney failure, or significant electrolyte abnormalities occur, medication should be stopped immediately and medical advice sought. Due to many interactions with other medications, patients taking other medications should consult with their physician or pharmacist, particularly regarding caution when combining with lithium, NSAIDs, potassium-sparing diuretics, and blood pressure medications. Safety has not been established for children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers, particularly pregnant women should avoid use, and it is recommended that breastfeeding mothers also refrain from using it. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension or electrolyte abnormalities may occur, so immediate emergency treatment is required if symptoms are present. This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container away from moisture and direct sunlight, out of reach of children.
