This medication is used to treat painful muscle spasms associated with musculoskeletal disorders, such as shoulder-hand syndrome, periarthritis of the shoulder, and low back pain. It is also effective for various neurological sequelae, such as spastic paralysis due to neurological diseases, cerebrovascular disorders, spinal cord injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and cerebral palsy. Overall, this drug helps alleviate muscle spasms and stiffness, thereby improving the quality of life and reducing disabilities for patients.

How to take

Adult dose

As Eperisone Hydrochloride, 50 mg is taken orally three times a day after meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. First, patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or suffer from severe myasthenia gravis should not use it. Additionally, patients with genetic lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Second, patients with a history of drug hypersensitivity or liver dysfunction should use this drug with caution. This drug contains a pigment known as Tartrazine (Yellow No. 5), which may cause allergic reactions in sensitive patients. Third, while taking this drug, serious side effects may rarely occur, and careful monitoring is required. For example, an allergic shock may occur, so if symptoms appear, discontinue the medication immediately and seek treatment. There may be abnormalities in liver and kidney function, necessitating regular tests. Various side effects such as skin rashes, itching, insomnia, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, etc. may occur. Serious skin conditions, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, may develop; thus, if fever, rash, blisters, or eye redness occurs, discontinue use immediately. Fourth, drowsiness or weakness may occur while taking this medication, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. Fifth, the risk of side effects may increase when this medication is used in conjunction with other muscle relaxants, so caution is necessary in such cases. Sixth, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication if absolutely necessary, as its safety has not been established; nursing mothers should also avoid use if possible or must cease breastfeeding while taking it. Seventh, the safety of this drug in children has not been adequately confirmed, so caution in use is necessary. Lastly, elderly patients may have reduced physical function, so special caution such as dosage reduction is necessary.
