Efficacy & effects

Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension

  • Essential Hypertension
View approved original text

This medication may be effective for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine or telmisartan. In such cases, the two drugs can be combined to lower blood pressure more stably. This helps reduce the risk of complications associated with hypertension. Patients who find it difficult to manage their blood pressure can also expect positive effects on blood pressure control with continuous use. This medication is specifically used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication can pose serious risks to the fetus, especially during the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy, and should not be taken by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant. Use of this medication is contraindicated or requires caution for patients with certain conditions. For example, patients with liver disorders, severe hypotension, cardiac diseases, obstructive biliary diseases, and those with severely impaired kidney function or diabetes should not use this medication. As this medication lowers blood pressure, it may cause hypotension, and if symptoms of hypotension occur, appropriate measures should be taken immediately. Furthermore, there is a risk of hyperkalemia, which is an increase in potassium levels in the blood, so potassium levels should be regularly checked, and caution should be taken when combining with medications or supplements high in potassium. For patients with reduced kidney function, there is a risk of worsening renal function, and serum creatinine and potassium levels should be monitored periodically. Side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbances, palpitations, and edema can commonly occur, and care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. Since this medication has a strong blood pressure-lowering effect, patients with cardiovascular diseases should be cautious as excessive blood pressure reduction may increase the risk of myocardial infarction or stroke. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist if they are taking other medications, especially when used with lithium, digoxin, warfarin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, etc. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication and must stop immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. The safety and efficacy of this medication in pediatric patients have not been sufficiently established, so it is not recommended. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and cardiac abnormalities may occur, and prompt medical attention should be sought. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers to maintain the product's quality.
