This medication is primarily used to treat essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in patients over 55 years of age who are at high risk and cannot use ACE inhibitors. This includes individuals with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attacks, or organ damage due to high-risk diabetes. This drug is effective in reducing the risk of death from myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is used for hypertension management and prevention of cardiovascular complications.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential hypertension: 40 mg of Telmisartan once daily orally with water, regardless of meals. It may be effective at 20 mg once daily for some patients, and can be increased up to 80 mg once daily if necessary. 2. Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk: It is recommended to take 80 mg once daily orally with water. Patients with liver impairment: Mild.

Precautions

This medication can cause severe harm to the fetus during pregnancy; therefore, if pregnancy is confirmed, it should be discontinued immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. Patients with severe liver impairment or problems with bile secretion should not use this drug. If there is an allergy to this medication or its ingredients, it should be avoided. Patients with diabetes or moderate to severe renal impairment require special caution, and concomitant use with certain drugs is prohibited. Elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia, or patients with mild liver impairment should use this medication cautiously. Patients with heart or vascular diseases should be cautious due to the risk of excessive blood pressure reduction causing problems in the heart or brain. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases should be careful due to the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when taking this medication. Patients with renal vascular issues should avoid using this drug due to the risk of worsening kidney function. This medication lowers blood pressure, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of dizziness or fainting. Interactions may occur when this medication is taken with other antihypertensive agents or specific drugs; consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. Special caution is especially advised when used with lithium, diuretics, potassium-sparing diuretics, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Routine monitoring of kidney function and serum potassium levels is necessary while on this medication. Symptoms of overdose may include hypotension, dizziness, and acute renal failure, warranting immediate medical attention. The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years have not been established; therefore, it is not recommended. Store this medication out of the reach of children, and it is advisable to open the tablet package just before taking it. If any unusual symptoms or discomfort occur during the use of this medicine, consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately.
