View approved original text

Pitavastatin 2mg monotherapy is effective in adequately controlling LDL cholesterol levels in adult patients at high risk of coronary artery disease. However, this therapy is used in patients with mixed dyslipidemia who do not reduce triglyceride levels and maintain low HDL cholesterol levels. Therefore, this medication focuses on the management of LDL cholesterol while improving certain dyslipidemias of mixed dyslipidemia.

Precautions

Caution is required as this medication may cause rare side effects affecting muscles and kidneys when taken with fibrates and statins. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, or cramps occur, consult a doctor immediately. It is essential for elderly patients over 65 years of age, women, and patients with kidney impairment or uncontrolled hypothyroidism to have a blood test for muscle damage before taking this medication. This drug should not be administered to patients with certain diseases or conditions; for example, it should not be taken by those with liver disease, gallbladder disease, severe kidney impairment, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and children under 18 years of age. Furthermore, as the risk of muscle toxicity may increase when combined with other lipid-lowering agents or certain medications, consultation with a doctor is mandatory. During the use of this medication, liver and kidney functions should be monitored regularly, and if there are symptoms of liver dysfunction or pancreatitis, the medication should be discontinued immediately and medical personnel consulted. This drug may affect blood coagulation, so caution is needed for patients with bleeding disorders or those taking anticoagulants. Dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised, and excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and breastfeeding women should also avoid taking it. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established in children, therefore it should not be used in this population. There is no specific antidote for overdose; appropriate treatment should be provided depending on the symptoms. Store this medication out of reach of children and in its original container to maintain quality.
