View approved original text

This medication is used to lower elevated triglyceride levels in patients with endogenous hypertriglyceridemia. It is particularly suitable for monotherapy in patients with hypertriglyceridemia (Type IV), and in patients with combined hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia (Type IIb), it enhances effect when used in conjunction with statins. It also improves treatment effectiveness when combined with statin therapy in patients whose triglyceride levels are not adequately controlled. Through this, it helps to regulate blood lipid levels and maintain cardiovascular health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication must be preceded by appropriate hypolipidemic dietary therapy, which should continue throughout the treatment period. This medication is taken with meals to avoid gastrointestinal disturbances. For hypertriglyceridemia, the usual starting dose is 2g (2 capsules) per day, and it can be increased to a maximum of 4g per day if needed. This can be taken once or twice a day.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients with hypersensitivity to its components or children under 18 years of age. Patients at high risk of bleeding due to severe trauma or surgery, patients with poor liver function, and those with fish allergies should use this medication with caution. During treatment, side effects such as indigestion, dizziness, headache, constipation, and nausea may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, consultation with healthcare personnel is required. Pregnant women should only take this medication if the therapeutic benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus, as its effects on fetal development are unclear. Lactating women also need caution as it is uncertain whether this drug is excreted in breast milk. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Although there were no significant differences noted in elderly patients during clinical trials, their condition should be carefully monitored during use. Before taking this medication, it is important to check blood triglyceride levels and to follow a diet and exercise regime. Regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor lipid levels during treatment, and if there is no effect within 2 months, the medication may be discontinued. When taken with anticoagulants or acetylsalicylic acid, the risk of bleeding may increase, so blood coagulation status should be regularly monitored. In case of overdose, appropriate treatment should be administered based on symptoms, and it should be kept out of reach of children. Moreover, transferring to another container is not recommended as it may adversely affect quality.
