Improvement of symptoms and urinary flow in benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduction in the need for surgery
This medication improves symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduces the enlarged prostate, and helps maintain smooth urine flow. It also decreases the frequency of acute urinary retention, preventing emergencies. As a result, it helps reduce the necessity of surgical treatments such as transurethral resection of the prostate or prostatectomy. Overall, it effectively improves issues related to benign prostatic hyperplasia.
For Finasteride, administer 5 mg orally once daily, regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve, a minimum of 6 months of treatment is required.
This medication should not be used in children and women. In particular, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication, as it may pose a potential risk to male fetuses. Depression or mood changes may occur while using this medication; if these symptoms appear, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Patients allergic to this medication or those with certain genetic lactase deficiency disorders should not take it. Additionally, caution is needed for patients with allergies to soybean oil, soy, or peanuts. It should be used cautiously in patients with liver dysfunction or problems in lipid metabolism, and it is advisable to periodically check blood lipid levels. This medication may cause sexual dysfunction-related side effects, including erectile dysfunction, reduced libido, and ejaculatory disorders; if these symptoms persist or worsen, inform a healthcare professional. There have been reports of male breast cancer associated with long-term use, but a direct correlation has not yet been established. This medication may increase the risk of certain high-grade prostate cancers; thus, regular screenings before and during treatment are important. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and women who may become pregnant should exercise caution when handling this drug. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established, so it is not used in this population. There is no need for special dosage adjustment in older adults, but it should be used considering the general health status. During use of this medication, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels may decrease, so this should be taken into account when interpreting PSA test results. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but adhering to the recommended dosage is crucial. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers for safety.
Urticaria, angioedema (including swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, and face)
Mood alteration, depression, suicidal thoughts, muscle pain, weakness, anxiety, testicular pain, blood clots, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, ejaculatory disorders (reduced semen volume), male infertility, dyspepsia, constipation, gastrointestinal disturbances (heartburn), dry mouth, itching, rash, headache, dizziness, fatigue, otitis media, liver dysfunction, tingling in both hands, hypersensitivity reactions

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air and moisture from entering. It is also advisable to store the medication at room temperature, which should not be too cold or too hot, between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
