This drug is used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin B1 deficiency. It also helps supplement when vitamin B1 is not sufficiently ingested from food, for example, during wasting diseases, hyperthyroidism, pregnancy and lactation, or intense physical labor. It is also used to treat neurological and cardiac disorders associated with vitamin B1 deficiency, such as Wernicke's encephalopathy and beriberi heart disease. Additionally, it helps relieve symptoms of various diseases suspected to be caused by a deficiency or metabolic disorder of vitamin B1, including neuralgia, myalgia, peripheral neuropathy, myocardial metabolic disorders, and gastrointestinal motility disorders. However, it is recommended not to continue use without purpose for more than one month if there is no effect. Overall, this drug is effectively used for the prevention and treatment of various diseases related to vitamin B1 deficiency.

Dosage and Administration

As fursultiamine, it is generally administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously at a dose of 5 to 100 mg per day for adults. The dose may be appropriately adjusted according to symptoms.

Precautions

This drug is contained in a glass ampoule, and there is a risk of glass shards entering during use, so care should be taken when breaking the ampoule. Extra caution should be exercised when administering to children or the elderly. People who have had allergic reactions to the ingredients of this drug should not use it. Individuals who have a history of allergic reactions should be cautious when using this drug. Severe allergic reactions may rarely cause shock, so if symptoms such as a drop in blood pressure, chest pain, or difficulty breathing occur during administration, administration should be immediately stopped and appropriate treatment should be sought. Moreover, if allergic symptoms such as rash occur, the use of the drug should be discontinued. Occasionally, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, oral inflammation, and diarrhea may occur. Sometimes, headaches or frequent urination may also appear. The injection site may be painful, so it is advisable to inject slowly. When using the injectable solution, do not reuse any remaining drug to prevent bacterial contamination. When breaking the ampoule, ensure that the marked part is facing upwards, lightly press the opposite side to break it, and wipe with a clean alcohol swab to prevent foreign substances from entering. This drug should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may lead to accidents or deterioration of the drug's quality, so caution is advised.
