Improvement in type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is an adjunct used with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with other oral hypoglycemic agents if they are ineffective. It is also crucial for diabetic patients to receive nutritional counseling, weight loss, and exercise therapy, as these efforts significantly aid in enhancing and maintaining treatment efficacy. This medication improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This medication is to be taken orally once daily, regardless of meals. As monotherapy, treatment may be initiated with 15 mg once daily, and if sufficient efficacy is not achieved, the dosage may be increased to 30 mg once daily. For combination therapy, it should also be initiated with 15 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dosage should not exceed 30 mg once daily.
Use in children under 18 years old is not recommended due to lack of experience.
This medication is designed to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. This drug can affect heart function, so patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use it. When starting treatment or increasing the dose, symptoms of heart failure, such as sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, and edema, should be carefully monitored. If such symptoms occur, health care professionals must be informed immediately, and dosage adjustment or discontinuation may be necessary. This drug can cause fluid retention, which may worsen edema or heart failure, so patients with edema or cardiovascular disease should exercise particular caution. This medication is also not indicated for patients with active bladder cancer, a history of bladder cancer, severely impaired liver or kidney function, diabetic ketoacidosis, or type 1 diabetes. This medication requires the presence of insulin for efficacy and is not used for type 1 diabetes. Additionally, premenopausal women may experience ovulation, increasing the risk of pregnancy, and should use appropriate contraceptive methods. While taking this medication, regular monitoring of blood glucose and liver function is required, and if symptoms such as weight gain, edema, or shortness of breath occur, consult a physician immediately. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so it is essential to be aware of the symptoms and management of hypoglycemia. This drug may interact with other medications, so inform healthcare providers about any other drugs being taken. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should consult with a physician before using this drug. Overdosage may not present specific symptoms, but if any unusual symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication's safety and efficacy have not been established in children, and caution should be exercised when used in the elderly. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container.
