This medication is effective in managing dyslipidemia in conjunction with dietary therapy. It contributes to reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases due to cholesterol. Therefore, this medication is used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication, patients with liver problems or consistently elevated liver function test results, patients with severe liver impairment or bile duct obstruction, patients taking cyclosporine, patients with myopathy, pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers, and children should not receive this medication. In addition, it should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function or a history of liver disease, those who consume alcohol excessively, patients with hypothyroidism or a history of muscle-related diseases, and the elderly, as the risk of side effects may increase when used with specific medications, resulting in muscle damage or worsening kidney function. While taking this medication, symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, abdominal pain, rash, and itching may occur, and serious side effects such as liver dysfunction, blood abnormalities, and kidney dysfunction may also arise, necessitating regular tests. If severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, use should be discontinued immediately and medical consultation sought. Additionally, regular liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment to detect any abnormal signs early. This medication is used to treat hyperlipidemia, so before use, it is recommended to confirm hypercholesterolemia and to incorporate dietary and exercise therapies. If there is no therapeutic effect, use should be stopped. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain genetic disorders, and since it can interact with other drugs, any medications currently being taken must be disclosed to healthcare providers. In elderly patients, the risk of side effects may be increased due to reduced bodily functions, so dosage adjustments and careful monitoring are required. Pregnant or nursing patients should refrain from taking this medication due to potential effects on the fetus and newborn, and use should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Finally, this medication should not be used in children as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
