Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

○ Adults: Administer 50 mg of itopride hydrochloride orally per dose, 3 times daily before meals. Reduce the dose as appropriate according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with a known allergy to this drug or any of its components or those who have experienced hypersensitivity reactions. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients where stimulation of gastrointestinal motility could be harmful, such as those with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation. This medication contains lactose, so patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Serious allergic reactions like shock or anaphylaxis may occur during treatment; thus, symptoms should be monitored closely. If symptoms such as hypotension, difficulty breathing, laryngeal edema, urticaria, pallor, or sweating appear, discontinue medication immediately and seek appropriate treatment. Liver dysfunction or jaundice may develop, so liver function tests should be monitored closely, and treatment should be halted if symptoms arise. Gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and increased salivation may also be observed. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and dizziness can occur, requiring caution. Gynecomastia or elevated prolactin levels may occur; discontinue use if any abnormal symptoms arise. Blood abnormalities such as thrombocytopenia or leukopenia may be observed, necessitating regular blood tests. Renal function impairment may occur, so BUN and creatinine levels should be monitored periodically. Elevations in liver enzyme levels (AST, ALT, γ-GTP, ALP) have also been reported, so liver health should be observed. Hypersensitivity reactions such as rash, redness, and itching may rarely occur, and treatment should be halted if abnormal symptoms arise. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors may develop, requiring appropriate measures if symptoms occur. Chest or back pain and fatigue may appear; if symptoms persist, consult a physician. This medication enhances the action of acetylcholine, so consideration is necessary in its use, and if digestive symptoms do not improve, long-term use is not advisable. When taken with anticholinergics, the effectiveness of this medication may be diminished; therefore, it is necessary to manage dosing intervals carefully. Safety during pregnancy has not been established; women of childbearing potential should only take it if the benefits outweigh the risks. During breastfeeding, this medication may be excreted in breast milk, so it is advisable to avoid use, or if necessary, to stop breastfeeding. The safety in children has not been sufficiently confirmed; therefore, caution should be exercised when administering to pediatric patients. Elderly patients may exhibit adverse reactions more readily due to decreased physiological functions; thus, their symptoms should be closely monitored, and dosage adjustment or discontinuation should be considered when necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers may pose a risk of accidents and quality degradation, so caution is advised.
