This medicine is used to lower blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular diseases for patients aged 55 years or older who are at high risk of coronary artery disease or stroke and are unable to use ACE inhibitors. With this efficacy, it improves patients' cardiovascular health and reduces the risk of complications.

How to take

Adult dose

Essential Hypertension Telmisartan should be taken orally at a dose of 40 mg once daily with water, and can be taken regardless of meal timing. In some patients, a dose of 20 mg once daily may also be effective. If necessary, the dose may be increased up to 80 mg once a day. Dose increments will show maximum blood pressure-lowering effect 4 to 8 weeks after starting treatment. Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk It is recommended to take 80 mg orally with water once daily.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be used in patients with allergic reactions to this drug, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, patients with severe liver impairment, patients with hereditary angioedema, and patients with certain kidney diseases. Caution is necessary when using in the elderly, patients with hyperkalemia, liver disease patients, and heart disease patients, as there is a risk of excessively low blood pressure. During treatment, various side effects such as infections, blood disorders, hyperkalemia, hypoglycemia, renal function decline, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, and angioedema may occur, so if unusual symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately. In particular, if symptoms of hypotension, syncope, shock, or angioedema occur, the medication should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Additionally, when used in combination with other antihypertensives, blood pressure may become too low, so dose adjustments and monitoring of the condition are important. This drug may interact with certain medications, so inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken. It is advisable for pregnant or nursing women to avoid taking this medication, and nursing may need to be suspended if breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established in children under 18 years of age and is therefore not recommended.
