Precautions

This medication contains the two ingredients, metformin and linagliptin. It is important to note that serious side effects, such as lactic acidosis, may occur while taking this medication, especially in patients with poor kidney function, liver problems, congestive heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Additionally, patients with allergies to any component of this medication or any other ingredients should not take it. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar must be monitored closely, particularly when taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas. Patients with decreased renal function should undergo regular renal function tests before taking this medication, and if renal function drops below a certain level, it should be avoided. If acute illnesses, severe infections, dehydration, or severe trauma lead to a rapid decline in renal function, this medication should be temporarily discontinued. Rare side effects such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if severe abdominal pain or skin blisters develop during treatment, healthcare providers should be notified immediately. This medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, so long-term users should be tested for vitamin B12 deficiency and receive supplementation if necessary. Pregnant women or those who might become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should ideally avoid this medication. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been established, so it is not recommended for children under 10 years of age or adolescents aged 10 to 17. Elderly patients who frequently have impaired renal function should have their kidney function monitored regularly while taking this medication, and doses should be adjusted accordingly. This medication may increase the risk of lactic acidosis when taken with alcohol, so it is advisable to avoid drinking. Before and after tests using radiocontrast iodine agents, the use of this medication should be temporarily suspended, and it should be resumed only after renal function has stabilized. If surgery is planned, the medication should be stopped 48 hours prior and resumed once renal function improves post-surgery. This medication can interact with various other drugs, so patients taking other medications must inform their doctor or pharmacist. In cases of overdose, serious side effects such as lactic acidosis may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
