Improvement of blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes
This medication is primarily used to help control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is prescribed for cases where there has been no initial experience with diabetes drug therapy or where blood glucose control is difficult with monotherapy. It can also be administered as an alternative or in combination therapy when sufficient blood glucose control is not achieved with metformin monotherapy or a combination of linagliptin and metformin. It can enhance blood glucose control when used together with sulfonylureas, insulin, and empagliflozin. This medication effectively improves blood glucose control when combined with various treatment options.
The dosage of this medication is determined based on the maximum recommended doses of its components, which are 2.5 mg of linagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin, without exceeding twice daily for each patient, considering their current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability. This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If the patient is not currently treated with metformin: Take this medication 2.5/500 mg, one tablet twice a day. 2.5/
This medication contains metformin hydrochloride, which can rarely cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so caution is required. In particular, this medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to any of its components, type 1 diabetes, lactic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, severe liver dysfunction, dehydration, or acute conditions such as severe infections should also avoid using this medication. Additionally, it is recommended that this medication not be administered to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication carries a risk of hypoglycemia; therefore, caution is needed regarding the possibility of hypoglycemia when used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin. To reduce the risk of lactic acidosis, kidney function should be periodically monitored, and if kidney function deteriorates, the use of this medication should be avoided or discontinued. In cases of acute kidney function deteriorating, cardiopulmonary disease, or sepsis, it is safe to temporarily discontinue this medication. Patients should consult a doctor immediately if symptoms such as abdominal pain, muscle pain, or weakness occur while taking this medication. This medication can cause rare skin disorders such as pancreatitis or similar conditions; therefore, if persistent and severe abdominal pain or blisters on the skin appear, the medication should be discontinued, and the patient should seek medical attention. The metformin component can lower vitamin B12 levels, so regular checks for vitamin B12 deficiency are recommended during long-term use. Potential drug interactions may occur; therefore, patients should inform their doctors or pharmacists of any currently taken medications. Special attention to kidney function is needed when taken with diuretics, antihypertensives, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that may affect kidney function. This medication should be avoided during pregnancy, and women planning to become pregnant are advised to consult a doctor before deciding on treatment options. The use of this medication is also recommended to be avoided during breastfeeding. Elderly patients commonly have reduced kidney function; thus, kidney function should be assessed before starting this medication, and monitoring should be conducted regularly. Caution may be needed when driving or operating machinery while taking this medication, though no specific studies on its effects have been conducted yet. In case of overdose, serious side effects such as lactic acidosis may occur. Immediate medical treatment is necessary, and blood dialysis may be required. This medication should be stored away from moisture and kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided.
