Improvement of blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in the blood sugar control of adults with type 2 diabetes. It is administered when adequate blood sugar control is not achievable with diet and exercise alone. Additionally, it is used when blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy of metformin or combination therapy with other medications. It can enhance therapeutic efficacy when used in conjunction with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents. This medication helps improve blood sugar control by complementing various therapeutic stages.
This medication is taken twice daily with meals. 1. If currently not treated with metformin: Start with an initial dose of this medication 2.5/500 mg taken twice daily, and it can be increased to this medication 2.5/1000 mg taken twice daily, one tablet at a time. 2. If sufficient blood sugar control cannot be achieved with monotherapy of metformin: Linagliptin 2.5 mg twice daily and metformin should be considered.
This medication contains metformin hydrochloride and linagliptin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. This medication can cause a rare but very serious complication known as lactic acidosis, and should not be administered to patients with severely impaired kidney function or those with acute infections, heart failure, or liver function disorders. Moreover, it should be avoided in women who are pregnant or nursing, as well as in patients with poor nutritional status or alcohol dependence. If taken with sulfonylureas or insulin, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be monitored closely, and dosage adjustments of other medications may be necessary. Regular monitoring of kidney function is required while on this medication, especially in the elderly or those with mildly impaired kidney function. If iodine-containing contrast agents are used during radiological examinations, the medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after the administration of the contrast agent, and resumed only after kidney function has normalized. Patients scheduled for surgery should also stop taking this medication 48 hours beforehand and resume only after recovery from surgery. While taking this medication, rare side effects such as acute pancreatitis, severe joint pain, or skin blisters resembling bullous pemphigoid may occur, and if these symptoms appear, the physician should be notified immediately. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency; therefore, if anemia or neurological symptoms appear, B12 levels should be checked and supplemented as needed. This medication has relatively few drug interactions; however, when taken with certain antihypertensives, diuretics, or NSAIDs, there is a risk of kidney function deterioration, necessitating periodic monitoring. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should avoid this medication, and insulin therapy is recommended for blood sugar control. Safety and efficacy in pediatric populations have not yet been established, and in the elderly, the minimum dosage should be considered while regularly checking kidney function. In case of overdose, there is a risk of lactic acidosis, requiring immediate hospital treatment, which may include hemodialysis. This medication should be stored in a cool place away from moisture and kept out of reach of children.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is important to maintain a storage temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. This will help preserve the medication's efficacy and safety for an extended period.
