This medication is used for osteoarthritis of the knee joint and periarthritis of the shoulder. In other words, it helps in the treatment of degenerative arthritis of the knee joint and inflammatory diseases around the shoulder.

How it is given

Adult administration

Generally, for adults, administer one vial once a week for three consecutive weeks into the knee joint cavity or shoulder joint (shoulder joint cavity, subacromial bursa, or bicipital tendon sheath), but the number of administrations may be adjusted based on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have previously experienced allergic reactions to its ingredients. Furthermore, it must be used with caution in patients who are allergic to other medications or have liver function issues or a history of liver disease. Patients with liver diseases may show abnormal liver enzyme levels, so caution is needed. As this medication is injected into the joint, it should be avoided or used cautiously in cases of skin disease or infection at the injection site. During use, symptoms of shock, a severe allergic reaction, may occur; patients should be monitored closely, and if any abnormal symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be administered. Additionally, allergic symptoms such as swelling around the face or eyes, redness, rash, and itching may occur; if these symptoms develop, stop using the medication and consult a healthcare professional. There may be temporary pain, swelling, redness, warmth, or pressure at the injection site, and rarely, symptoms of fluid accumulation in the joint may appear. Nausea, vomiting, and fever may also occur; if these symptoms arise, inform the healthcare provider. In cases of severe arthritis, it is advisable to use this medication after inflammation has subsided, and stabilizing the injection site post-administration can be helpful. If the drug leaks out of the joint, pain may ensue, so it is important to inject it accurately into the joint. Aseptic technique must be maintained during injection, and if symptoms do not improve, the treatment should only be administered up to three times and then be discontinued. If there is excess synovial fluid in the joint, it may be necessary to drain the fluid prior to injection. This medication is not used for intra-vascular or ophthalmic purposes, and it is advisable to use a 22-23 gauge needle for injection. Care should be taken as co-use with disinfectants such as benzalkonium chloride or chlorhexidine may cause drug precipitation. For pregnant women or women of childbearing potential, this medication should be used cautiously only when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. During breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid breastfeeding as the drug may be transmitted through the milk. In children, its safety has not been sufficiently established, so use should be cautious and only when necessary.
