Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with amlodipine or telmisartan monotherapy. Essential hypertension causes persistent elevation of blood pressure, increasing the risk of cardiovascular complications, thus effective blood pressure control is very important. This drug helps to lower blood pressure steadily for hypertension management. In cases where monotherapy is difficult, combination therapy can offer more effective blood pressure control. Therefore, this medication is used to treat essential hypertension.
The recommended dosage of this medication is one tablet once daily, taken with water regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). For patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustment is not necessary for mild and moderate renal impairment, but severe renal impairment patients should start treatment with a lower dose and gradually increase the dose. For hepatic impairment patients, the daily dose of telmisartan should not exceed 40 mg.
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established, thus the administration of this medication is not recommended.
This medication should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, as it can cause serious harm to the fetus. This drug should not be administered to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severe liver or biliary problems, patients with severely reduced heart function, or those with hypersensitivity to its components. Patients with primary aldosteronism, certain heart valve diseases, impaired liver function, or gastrointestinal diseases should use this medication with special caution. Side effects such as dizziness or edema may occur frequently; if symptoms are severe, consultation with a doctor is advised. There is a possibility that blood pressure may drop excessively, particularly in patients with dehydration or low sodium levels, so it is important to check the condition before taking the medication and follow the doctor's instructions. This medication may increase potassium levels, so patients at risk for hyperkalemia should have regular blood tests to monitor potassium levels. Patients with impaired kidney function should periodically check kidney function and electrolyte status while taking this medication. Patients with heart disease or heart failure should be especially cautious when taking this medication and should inform the doctor immediately if symptoms worsen. This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness while driving or operating machinery, so caution is necessary while taking it. There may be interactions with other medications, so if currently taking other medicines, it is important to inform the doctor or pharmacist. This drug is not recommended for children, and dosage adjustments may be necessary for the elderly. In the event of overdose, symptoms such as decreased blood pressure, dizziness, or heart rhythm disturbances may occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, immediate medical attention should be sought.
