This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It also alleviates the symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and is applicable for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease. For patients with gastrointestinal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, the treatment effect is enhanced when used in combination with antibiotics. It is also used in conditions associated with excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This drug is effective in alleviating and treating symptoms related to the stomach and gastrointestinal disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

Rabeprazole Sodium: 10 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg can be taken orally once daily. Administered up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms do not improve after 8 weeks, an additional 8-week course of 10 mg or 20 mg can be given.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic or hypersensitive to any ingredients of this medication. Caution is particularly needed when: allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, especially when treating Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. It may be dangerous to take this drug concurrently with specific heart disease medications or antiviral agents; thus, it is essential to consult with a physician. It is safest for pregnant or nursing women not to take this medication. Patients with impaired liver function, elderly patients, or those with a history of drug allergies should use this medication with caution. If any allergic symptoms such as skin rash or itching occur during treatment, discontinue use immediately and inform a doctor. Regular blood tests and liver function tests need to be performed; treatment should be stopped immediately if any abnormalities are found. Diverse side effects may occur in various areas such as the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, nervous, respiratory, skin, visual, and urinary systems, so symptoms should be observed carefully. Long-term use may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, and hypomagnesemia may occur, requiring periodic checks of magnesium levels. This drug may increase the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach by inhibiting gastric acid secretion, so if diarrhea symptoms persist, consult a doctor immediately. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness or dizziness may occur. It may interact with other medications, so it is necessary to discuss all medications being taken with healthcare providers. Do not chew or crush this drug; swallow it whole, and keep it out of reach of children. Regular medical check-ups should be conducted during long-term use, and immediate notification should be given for any unusual symptoms.
