This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It particularly reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults who are older or have risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, low HDL cholesterol, or a family history. It is also effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke for patients with Type 2 diabetes who have multiple risk factors. In patients who already have coronary artery disease, it lowers the risk of complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure, and angina. Additionally, in patients with hyperlipidemia, it helps to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It can also be used in pediatric patients who meet certain criteria to reduce cholesterol levels. Therefore, this medication is used to prevent and manage cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.
