Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone as an initial treatment for diabetes and is also used in conjunction with Metformin when blood glucose control is difficult with Metformin alone. Additionally, it can be used effectively along with sulfonylurea monotherapy or insulin therapy for better blood glucose management. This medication also helps when blood glucose control is insufficient while using both Metformin and sulfonylurea. If blood glucose control is not adequate when used in combination with Empagliflozin and Metformin, this medication can be added. Thus, it is used in combination with various drugs to improve blood glucose control.
The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.
This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to the active ingredient or other components of this medication. It should also not be given to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. When used with insulin or sulfonylurea drugs that can induce hypoglycemia, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so dosage adjustment may be necessary. Caution should be exercised in patients with heart failure classified as NYHA functional class I-II, and it is not recommended for class III-IV patients. Acute pancreatitis may occur; if severe abdominal pain persists, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a doctor. A skin condition called bullous pemphigoid may appear, and if symptoms such as blisters or sores occur, inform the doctor immediately, and consider discontinuing the medication if necessary. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur during treatment with this medication, so careful monitoring of blood glucose changes is required. Severe joint pain may occur, and if symptoms appear, consideration should be given to discontinuing the medication. Its safety during pregnancy has not been established, so it is not recommended for use, and caution is also needed during breastfeeding. It is not recommended for children under 10 years of age; in adolescents over 10 years, a safety profile similar to that of adults is observed. Elderly patients can use it without special dose adjustments. Patients with renal or hepatic impairment can also be administered without dose adjustments. In cases of overdose, since the drug may not be well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, general supportive therapy such as gastric lavage may be required if necessary. Medications should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly closed container. It is important to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius to preserve the effectiveness of the medication for an extended period.
