Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes and helps improve insulin resistance and control blood sugar levels. During the use of this drug, caution should be taken regarding heart function. In some patients, this drug may induce or worsen heart failure, so if symptoms such as weight change, shortness of breath, or swelling occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not take this drug. Additionally, this drug may cause fluid retention that can stress the heart, so it should be used with increased caution in patients with cardiovascular disease. During the use of this drug, if symptoms related to the bladder, such as hematuria, urinary disorders, or urgency, appear, the physician should be informed immediately to rule out bladder cancer. This drug should not be administered to patients with severe liver or kidney impairment, and regular liver function and kidney function tests should be performed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this drug, and premenopausal women should use appropriate contraceptive methods due to the risk of ovulation stimulation leading to pregnancy. This drug may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when combined with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, so dose adjustments may be necessary when used in combination. Furthermore, this drug can cause weight gain and edema, so careful monitoring of weight changes and edema symptoms is advised. Elderly patients or those with decreased kidney and liver function should exercise additional caution when using this drug, and regular health checks are necessary. In case of overdose, even if special symptoms are absent, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals for appropriate action is advised. This drug has not been shown to be safe and effective in children; therefore, it should not be used in this population.
