Treatment of musculoskeletal disorders (painful muscle spasms) and neurological disorders (stiff paralysis)
This medication is used to relieve painful muscle spasms associated with musculoskeletal disorders, such as pain and muscle cramps from conditions like scapulohumeral periarthritis, shoulder periarthritis, and low back pain. It is also effective in improving stiffness of muscles due to neurological disorders, including stiff paralysis, cerebrovascular disorders, spinal cord injuries, and cerebral palsy. By alleviating various types of muscle spasms and stiffness symptoms, it helps to enhance the quality of life of patients.
For eperisone hydrochloride, take 50 mg orally three times a day after meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, patients who have an allergic reaction to this medication should not be treated with it. Additionally, patients with severe myasthenia gravis should also avoid using this medication. Since this medication contains lactose, it should not be administered to patients with hereditary conditions that cause lactose intolerance. Some patients need to be cautious while using this medication. Patients with a history of drug hypersensitivity or those with liver dysfunction should use this medication cautiously. Especially in cases of liver dysfunction, caution is needed because this medication may exacerbate liver function. Various side effects may occur during the use of this medication. Rarely, shock reactions may occur, so symptoms should be observed diligently, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, treatment should be stopped immediately, and appropriate care should be sought. It is important to periodically check liver function test values as they may increase. There may also be effects on kidney function, so monitoring for proteinuria or changes in blood test results is necessary. Blood abnormalities, such as anemia, may also occur, so caution is advised. Allergic reactions such as skin rashes or itching may occur. Neurological symptoms including insomnia, drowsiness, headache, and numbness of hands and feet may also appear; in rare cases, symptoms of rigidity or tremors may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, constipation, or diarrhea. Genitourinary symptoms may include difficulty urinating or a feeling of incomplete urination. Systemically, there may be feelings of weakness, dizziness, or reduced muscle tone; in rare cases, flushing of the face or excessive sweating may also be experienced. Severe immune reactions, such as anaphylaxis, may occur, so if severe skin abnormalities such as fever, rash, blisters, itching, conjunctival injection, or oral inflammation appear, the use of this medication should be stopped immediately, and a hospital visit is necessary. Drowsiness, staggering, or fatigue may occur during the use of this medication, so if these symptoms arise, the dosage should be reduced or the treatment should be stopped. Moreover, caution should be taken to avoid driving a vehicle or operating dangerous machinery during the use of this medication, as drowsiness and decreased concentration may occur. When using this medication with similar drugs or certain muscle relaxants, visual disturbances may occur, so caution is needed when combining them. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as the safety of this medication has not been established. Breastfeeding is not recommended during the use of this medication. Safety has not been sufficiently established in children, and there is limited experience in using this medication in that population, so caution is warranted. Elderly patients may have diminished bodily functions, so dosage should be reduced and treatment should be administered cautiously.
Shock, liver abnormalities (elevated ALT, AST, ALP), kidney abnormalities (proteinuria, elevated BUN), anemia, anaphylactic reaction, angioedema, toxic epidermal necrolysis and mucocutaneous ocular syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
