This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes, when combined with dietary and exercise therapies. It can be used as a monotherapy or in combination with other medications to enhance blood sugar control. Therefore, it is used in ways that are appropriate for the patient's health condition to aid in blood sugar management.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals with allergies to the active ingredient or other components. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is required when using this medication, particularly if taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, which may induce hypoglycemia. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used with these medications, hence dosage adjustments may be necessary. Experience with this medication in patients with heart failure is limited; therefore, careful administration is warranted. If severe abdominal pain, indicative of acute pancreatitis, occurs while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately, and medical advice should be sought. A skin condition called bullous pemphigoid may occur, so any skin blisters or lesions should be reported to a doctor immediately. In such cases, medication should be stopped and specialized medical attention should be sought. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur while taking this medication. If symptoms such as dizziness, cold sweat, or severe fatigue are experienced, immediate action should be taken. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this medication as its safety has not been adequately confirmed. This medication is not recommended for children under 10 years of age as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Its use in children and adolescents over 10 years of age is permitted but limited. Elderly patients may use it without special dosage adjustments, but patients with impaired renal or liver function should also use it without separate dosage adjustments. In case of overdose, no specific antidote exists, so unabsorbed medication should be removed, and symptoms should be monitored closely along with necessary treatment. This medication should not be transferred to other containers, and it should be kept out of reach of children.
